River Ecology Teacher Workshop
When:
Thursday August 9, 2012
Time:
8:30am-4:30pm
Where:
Cook Forest State Park - Clarion River
Cook Forest State Park and the North Central Region Math/Science Education Collaborative will be conducting a two-day River Ecology Teacher Workshop. Teachers will receive a copy of Fresh Water Macroinvertebrates of the Northeast, the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commissions Pennsylvania Fishes, as well as have the option to receive ACT 48 hours. This workshop will emphasize hands-on investigative activities related to the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of a river. We will car-pool to various sites to sample for fish, macroinvertebrates, salamanders, and flow on the National Wild & Scenic Clarion River. Be prepared to get wet and be wet ALL day, so please dress appropriately. We will sample via canoe the second day, so prior canoeing experience will be useful. Workshop will go rain or shine. Proper river footwear is a must (old sneakers are good, flip-flops and sandals are bad). Bring an extra change of clothes and sunscreen, pack a lunch, refreshments provided. A sturdy river-walking stick will be useful. Fishing gear, snorkel and mask are encouraged. Program starts at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom. Cost is $125. If you would like to attend, please register by contacting the North Central Math/Science Collaborative at (814) 393-1612 or mathsci@clarion.edu.
